At Steele Rose Communications, "We Rinse Our Cottage Cheese". This is an analogy that comes from the best-selling author Jim Collins who writes about a disciplined world-class athlete named Dave Scott, who won the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon six times. In training, it is told; Scott would ride his bike 75 miles, swim 20,000 meters, and run 17 miles - on average, every single day! Needless to say, Dave Scott did not suffer from being overweight. Yet he believed that a low-fat, high carbohydrate diet would help give him an extra edge. So Dave Scott, a man who burned an average of 5,000 calories a day in training, would literally wash his cottage cheese to get the extra fat off! Now, there is no evidence that he absolutely needed to rinse his cottage cheese to win the Ironman six times; the point is that it was one more small step that he believed would give him an edge, make him better and that, added to all the other small steps, would give him the discipline to do whatever it took to become the best and continue to get better. That is how I view our agency. It's really that simple and it's really that difficult. |
